As we age, our world often becomes smaller, we have less contact with others, especially if we have a life-limiting illness or are confined to home.
To enable you to continue living at home you may be eligible for home help/personal care, however you will need a Needs Assessment Service Coordination (NASC) first from Te Whatu Ora – Lakes.
If you are no longer able to manage at home, this following link lists all the options you have if you need rest home or hospital level care in the Rotorua region, as well as processes required to get the right level of care you might need. Click on the Mid North Island link for local information.
Palliative Care provides holistic support, including medical and social care to someone who is experiencing a life-limiting illness.
Care focuses on how to get the best from each day, by addressing any kind of distress by treating pain and other symptoms as they arise.
It doesn’t mean you cannot receive life extending treatment at the same time.
It can be provided at home and in the hospital. A referral can be made by any health practitioner.
For caregivers this can be a stressful time if you are not confident or sure about what to do. It is also a precious time to take to be with your loved one, or just to be present. You can find information from the Hospice NZ website.
Rotorua Hospice offers palliative care free of charge, nursing advice, support and equipment loan. Hospice supports patients and their families / whānau towards the end of life.
